In 10 Years, Choice Connections Continues To See Positive Change

Choice Connections Twin Cities MN 10 Year AnniversaryOur business has been around a decade and given we are celebrating being in business that long, we thought we’d reflect on some of the changes we’ve seen take place.

Choices in the Marketplace

Who hasn’t noticed a new senior living building being built as they drive around the metro?    More and more options are being built to accommodate the baby boomers as they age.    From subsidized and affordable housing like The Legends by Dominium Inc to high cost upscale options like Trillium Woods in Plymouth, new housing options abound.   There are memory care only, continuum of care and residential care homes. With more choices comes more complexity as to which community is right for you. Sorting through those options is where Choice Connections brings value to our clients.

Amenities & Services

With baby boomers coming, there is more focus on fitness. More dog friendly options, some with a fenced pet area, can be found.  Most newer communities offer laundry in your unit, rather than down the hall.  And thought is put into how accessible the building and your unit is so you can age in place.   Chefs create wonderful menus and activity directors build a social program that their residents request. There are also high-end options that include granite counter tops and stainless-steel appliances.

Care and Staffing

A caring staff is the goal of every community. We have seen more communities increasing the training for their staff. Many only hire CNAs (Certified Nursing Assistants). We are seeing more training being done specifically on working with memory care residents. With the big increase in the number of communities and the number of in-home care companies, keeping up with staffing is a continuing challenge. We are starting to see the industry partner with schools to increase the number of graduates trained to do this special work.

Licensing and Regulation

A decade ago, the state licensed home care agencies and senior living communities in the same way. Senior living communities are also subject to housing regulations. As we all heard last year, State follow up on complaints had been poor as they were way behind. In the last year they have caught up. Now with the new bill approved last month changes will be coming that will improve the oversite of senior housing communities in MN.    For more detail on the changes coming in the next couple years see this link http://agewiseassisted.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/assisted-living-legislative-review-2019-twin-cities-mn.pdf

Choice Connections is here to help older adults and their families navigate all the choices and find the right new home.
